Many surveys have been undertaken to try to find out what sorts of things make staff happier in their work and, conversely, what upsets them. One of the main findings of such surveys is that staff want two things above almost any others. They want to know how well they have been doing and what their future is. It is to satisfy these needs that appraisals are undertaken and it is vital that appraisals are run in a proper manner.
Anyone who has responsibility for staff at any level. The course will concentrate on the specific of appraisal and participants should be familiar with the principles of interviewing prior to undertaking this training. For those who do not yet have such skills, REtraining’s “Basics of Interviewing” would be an appropriate course.
This course will give managers and supervisors the techniques necessary to conduct effective staff appraisals and performance reviews.
By the end of the course delegates will:
- Examine methods for structuring appraisals
- Plan and prepare for staff appraisals
- Gain commitment to mutually agreed objectives
- Practise the techniques involved
The course will incorporate a range of learning methods, all of which will include a high degree of delegate involvement. Delegates will have the opportunity to practise the skills and techniques discussed and will each have the opportunity to undertake a video-recorded appraisal role play. Delegates will all receive a copy of their personal recording, which they can study after the course to help continue to improve their appraisal skills.
