Believe it or not, many, if not most, of the times when you are speaking to a member of staff, you will be undertaking an interview. It might be a very formal interview – such as recruitment or disciplinary; it might be rather less formal, such as an interim performance review. But whatever the interview type, you will be undertaking it for a purpose; to get some kind of result. Any interview that does not get the result it was intended to get will have been a waste of time and effort – and could well have a very negative effect on those involved. But interviews aren’t successful just by chance. As with any other skill, interviewing techniques can, and should, be learnt.
Anyone who has responsibility for interviewing staff or potential staff, at any level.
This is a core course which will give managers and supervisors the knowledge necessary to undertake interviews of various types. After completing this course, delegates will be able to undertake additional modules to enable them to practise the skills necessary in various types of interview, including selection, appraisal and disciplinary.
By the end of the course delegates will:
- Identify the various types of interview
- Decide on the role to be adopted in each type
- et objectives for the main types of interview
- Identify good and bad interview techniques
The course will incorporate a range of learning methods, all of which will include a high degree of delegate involvement. There will be some opportunity to practise the skills and techniques involved.
